Activity: Anterior shoulder and chest stretch: standing



A simple stretch for pec (pectoralis) major and the anterior deltoid muscle.


  • standing facing the wall, place the palm of the (stretch-side) hand against the wall, roughly at shoulder height.
  • maintain the position of the scapula (shoulder blade).
  • turn the body away from the wall until a stretch is felt through the front of the chest and shoulder.
  • NOTE: the angle of the stretch may vary depending on where the focus needs to be (ie: lower arm position focuses on the upper portion, such as the sternal portion of pec major and the anterior deltoid, while higher positions will focus on the lower fibers of the pec major)
