Activity: Isometric: quadriceps over roll



A basic isometric exercise for the quadriceps (vastus lateralus, intermedius, medialis, rectus femoris).


  • laying or sitting on the floor with the leg outstretched, place a small roll (towel, bolster, etc...) under the back of the knee
  • gently tighten the quadriceps (front of thigh) and press the back of the knee into the roll, into the floor
  • do not lift heel off the floor
  • hold up to 6 seconds, repeat as instructed
