Activity: Peroneal stretch: standing



A simple stretch for the peroneal muscles (peroneus longus & brevis) on the lateral aspect of the lower leg.)


  • standing facing the wall, feet wider than shoulder width apart
  • step forward into a shallow lunge position with the non-stretch-side leg, hands placed upon the wall
  • the knee of the stretch-side does not need to be fully straight
  • the stretch should be felt in the posterior and lateral (outside) aspect of the lower leg
  • NOTE: to increase the focus of the stretch on the peroneals, either a wider stance can be adopted, or the medial or inner aspect of the foot can be carefully placed upon the edge of a mat, slightly tilted the sole of the foot towards the inside
