Activity: Wrist extension

A simple strength exercise for the extensors of the wrist.

  • sitting with the forearm supported by the thigh, hand gently closed into a fist
  • slowly extend (lift) the hand bending only from the wrist
  • then slowly flex (drop) the wrist
  • repeat as instructed
  • the exercise can be progressed by adding either elastic resistance or a small weight
  • NOTE: doing this exercise with the elbow straight, but still supported underneath, will tension the longer wrist extensors more (such as extensor carpi radialis longus)
