Activity: Arm elevation: shoulder flexion



A simple arm elevation exercise to promote good thoracic and scapular position.


  • start in a standing position, spine neutral, shoulders relaxed, breathing easily.
  • slowly flex the arm (lifting a straight arm in front of the body) until the arm is overhead or to the limit of comfort.
  • maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement.
  • the scapula will naturally elevate; avoid excessively shrugging or excessively depressing the scapula through the movement.
  • lower the arm to the starting position.
  • repeat as instructed.
