Activity: Calf stretch: gastrocnemius focus



Calf stretch focusing on the gastrocs, or gastrocnemius muscle. This is sometimes referred to as the "runner's stretch".


  • facing wall, hands against wall
  • one foot back with toes pointing straight towards wall
  • bend the opposite knee to lean forward, feel the stretch in the back of your calf
NOTE: you can create a bias towards tibialis posterior by crossing your rear-leg under your body. Conversely, you can create a bias towards the peroneal muscles by placing your rear-leg more out to the side, in a wider stance.
