Activity: Thoracic extension: simple



A gentle stretch to promote thoracic spine extension.


  • laying supine (face-up) on floor
  • an apropriate sized pillow may be used if the neck can't maintain a neutral position
  • you may raise arms overhead (painfree range) to encourage better thoracic extension
  • you may add deep breathing to have the motion of the ribs further promote thoracic extension
  • avoid hyperextension at the thoracolumbar (mid-back) junction or cervical (neck) region
