Activity: Talocrural joint: stretch to avoid anterior impingement



Ankle dorsiflexion (upwards flexion) stretch that minimizes anterior joint compression and capsular impingement.


  • loop one end of a non-elastic belt or strap around a stable, fixed post.
  • loop the other end around the lower leg, just above the ankle joint
  • gently bend the knee to increase ankle dorsiflexion without lifting the heel off the floor
  • You should feel pressure from the belt increase on your leg, but not so much that it limits the stretch. Adjust your feet accordingly
