Activity: Sitting hamstring stretch



A common hamstring stretch, which can be very effective if done properly


  • sitting upright on the floor, with one leg out-stretched in front, and the other tucked in
  • bend forward by flexing forward at the hips while keeping the spine neutral (ie: the spine does not bend)
  • stretch within the comfortable range
  • NOTE: the medial side (semi-membranosus/tendinosus) can be biased slightly by turning the leg slightly outwards. The lateral side (biceps femoris) can be biased by turning the leg slightly inwards
